My Materials
I incorporate many different "ingredients" in my art. I use acrylic paint, oils, inks, as well as powdered pigments, mineral powders, dyes. In some of my pieces I like to use gold or silver foil or leaf. I build layers upon layers of various color. All the paintings get a high gloss resin top coat which protects the layers and acts like glass. All my work takes days to cure after I am finished working on it. The typical creation time can be a few weeks depending on the size and the materials used as well as the finishing process. I attach all hanging hardware.
Special features
Some of my work has UV reactive paint and glow powders. These ribbons of light combined with mineral powders help to create natural depth and incredible tones. These are best seen after the painting has been under or near incandescent or fluorescent lighting. They will not glow under LED lights. I incorporate different glow colors, such as blue, orange, aqua and white. The glow color varies depending on the piece and is mixed in with my other "ingredients" and helps in my layering process.
You never know what may show up after dark. It's just for fun!
The results
The finished product is a one of a kind, unique work of art. Each one is on a gallery wrapped canvas coated in resin on all sides. These are ready to hang in any orientation. I pre-hang the way I "see" the work, but these can easily be moved to suit your own vision. Sometimes it helps to live with your painting for a day or more unhung.... move it around, change the orientation and see how the painting speaks to you. We can easily replace the hardware so the painting will hang for your eye. The high gloss resin acts similar to glass, so you get the protection and the finish without the potential for breakage.
Because of the nature of the high gloss and the layers, sometimes the camera just cannot do a piece justice. The colors and depth are sometimes lost a bit on the screen. All my paintings are vibrant and the layers are far more noticeable in person.
